The Book Connection's Summer 2010 Book Giveaway -- Book Pack #6 (A Mixed Bag)
Lest you think I am chronically late for everything, it's Vacation Bible School week around here. After months of preparation, VBS kicked off on Monday, so I scheduled all my blog posts to run, and didn't post this one. Naughty me.
I also received the galley for my first children's book, Little Shepherd, so I am a bit more strapped for time than usual.
Okay, enough with the excuses. On to this week's giveaway. Hard to believe we've crossed over the halfway point in The Book Connection's Summer 2010 Book Giveaway. Summer is flying by.
Book Pack # 6 includes:
One Foot Outside The Door by Vina St. Fran is the story of Cyndarella Worthy, an African-American woman whose professional life couldn't be better. She's also got a great Prince Charming, Thad Mitchell, who sweeps her off her feet.
When Cyn's high school sweetheart and first love, Bashar Bazzi, returns many years after abruptly ending their four-year relationship, a secret is exposed. Will Cyndarella ride off into the sunset with her Prince Charming or end up back in circulation?

An autographed copy of The River, By Moonlight by Camille Marchetta.
On a rainy, gloomy night in April 1917, young artist Lily Canning falls to her death, drowning in New York City's Hudson River. The vagrant who jumped in to try and save her tells police he doesn't think it was an accident. As Lily's family and friends try to come to terms with her death, they question why she would consider suicide at a time when her life was finally coming together. Having lived through the loss of her beloved father and a short, but horrific marriage, Lily's first art show was coming up soon. It seems incomprehensible that she would choose to end it all now. But could she have done it? And what would this sudden loss mean to those who were left behind to go on living without her?

An ARC of Beautiful Malice: A Novel by Rebecca James. This is the official blurb I received from the publisher:
An international sensation that The Wall Street Journal called a “publishing phenomenon,” this layered, poignant, and chilling novel of psychological suspense is the year’s most stunning American fiction debut. From its wrenching opening to its shocking climax, Beautiful Malice unfolds a haunting story in which people, motives, and circumstances are never what they seem.
Who is Katherine Patterson? It is a question she hopes no one can answer. To erase her past, Katherine has moved to a new city, enrolled in a new school, and even changed her name. She’s done the next best thing to disappearing altogether. Now, wary and alone, she seeks nothing more than anonymity. What she finds instead is the last thing she expected: a friend.
Even more unlikely, Katherine’s new friend is the most popular and magnetic girl in school. Extroverted, gorgeous, flirtatious, and unpredictable, she is everything that Katherine is not and doesn’t want to be: the center of attention. Yet Alice’s enthusiasm is infectious, her candor sometimes unsettling, and Katherine, in spite of her guarded caution, finds herself drawn into Alice’s private circle.
But Alice has secrets, too—darker than anyone can begin to imagine. And when she lets her guard down at last, Katherine discovers the darkest of them all. For there will be no escaping the past for Katherine Patterson—only a descent into a trap far more sinister . . . and infinitely more seductive.

The pet memoir, Dobie, The Canine Saint, by Dr. Paul Greenbaum.
Just a few days prior to a visit to his friend, Tom, Dr. Paul Greenbuam had to put to sleep his beloved canine companion. Was it any wonder that when Tom showed him the abused and neglected puppies in their dirty cage, Paul didn't want to talk about them? Tom tries to convince him to take one of the puppies, a female they had named Vicious--who was anything but that. A week later, Paul drove home with Vicious in tow. Renamed Dobie, this lovely book shares the story of her life and death, revealing her own healing process and how through that process, she healed Paul.
